Is Lebron James Retiring? Here’s What we Know

LeBron James is arguably one of the greatest NBA players of all time.

The Los Angeles Lakers star, who is still considered in his prime at 38, played the final game of his 20th NBA season with the highest-scoring postseason half of his matchless NBA career.

James scored 31 points in the first half of Game 4 on Monday night (May 23) but missed two opportunities to tie up the game towards the final minute as the Denver Nuggets ended the Lakers’ season with a 113-111 victory.

The NBA star was not happy about the outcome and shared some shocking news during a postgame news conference about the future and where he sees himself going forward.

“We’ll see what happens going forward,” James told reporters. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ve got a lot to think about, to be honest. Just for me personally going forward with the game of basketball, I’ve got a lot to think about.”

According to TNT’s Chris Haynes and ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James will “reportedly consider retirement.”

However, despite recent news, fans believe James won’t be retiring any time soon.

“LeBron isn’t leaving without a retirement tour. -His goal was to play in the NBA with Bronny, who is playing 1 mile down the street next year and will be one and done. L.A will host 2025 NBA All-Star, which will be a LeBron retirement party. NBA Vegas ownership in 2026,” Media Personality Arash Markazi shared on Twitter.

“There is absolutely zero chance of LeBron James retiring,” another fan wrote. “Throwing that out in the postgame last night, accomplishes two things for him: 1) Shifts the focus on him being swept, to will he play again 2) Serves as a threat to the Lakers front office to give him everything he wants this off-season,” he added.

James is currently under contract for $46.9 million next season with the Lakers and he hasn’t made mention of leaving the team as of yet.
