Polished By Shayy Defies Pandemic Odds, Transforms Nails into Works of Art

The COVID-19 pandemic rocked the nation with a wave of uncertainty, job losses, and disrupted dreams. However, amidst the chaos, some individuals managed to uncover hidden talents and pursue new passions.

One inspiring story is that of Tashay McDowell, a determined self-made entrepreneur who found her calling in the world of nail artistry during the pandemic.

McDowell transformed her newfound passion into a thriving business “Polished By Shayy”— carving a niche for herself in the beauty industry.

“I decided to learn how to do nails being that the nail salons were down due to COVID,” the Indiana based technician said. “I ended up loving it.”

Driven by her desire to channel her creativity and make a mark in an industry she was genuinely passionate about, McDowell spent hours honing her nail art skills.

From intricate designs to bold colors and trendy patterns, she found solace in transforming nails into miniature canvases. With each stroke of the brush, her talent blossomed, and her confidence grew.

One of McDowell’s speciality’s is incorporating portraits in her nails designs. She says her mother-in-law inspired her to do a set in honor of DMX.

“I thought it would be a good idea to show him in a good light,” she added.

“It’s all about being creative and that’s something I never struggled with as a child and I’ve always done art. That’s something I’ve always done but never tried to pursue,” McDowell continued. “It was just something that made me feel good.”

Launching a business during a pandemic presented unique obstacles especially since McDowell didn’t come from an entrepreneurial background.

Although she faced a variety of challenges, her determination and innovative thinking enabled her to overcome these hurdles. She embraced technology, offering virtual consultations and one-on-one courses to connect with clients.

“If you want something you have to stay consistent,” she said. “Don’t lose focus of that goal. Be confident in what you’re doing. If this is what you want to do, make this everything.”

In addition to gaining a strong clientele, McDowell’s work also managed to attract the attention of several celebrities like GloRilla, Latto, and YouTuber Chrissy.
