Mary J. Blige has a message for the ladies.

The Grammy-Award winning artist opened up during an intimate conversation with Earn Your Leisure at her annual Strength of A Woman Festival about finances and helpful business practices she’s learned over the years.

Blige shed light on the importance of paying taxes and revealed she never thought she would get out of debt. According to the singer, at one point in time, she owed the IRS “millions of dollars” but is proud to announce she is officially debt-free.

In addition, the “Real Love” artist also stressed that women need to protect themselves financially and opened up about the hardships she went through in hopes of educating others.

Blige filed for divorce from her husband and manager Martin "Kendu" Isaacs back in 2016 after 12 years of marriage. Although the former couple had a prenup in place, the judge sided with the singer’s ex-husband and ordered her to pay $30,000 monthly in spousal support.

“You mean to tell me I got to pay him for cheating and lying … and ruining my life?” Blige said during her conversation with Earn Your Leisure. “And, the law is you have to so I say get a prenup,” she continued. “Cover yourself up.”

According to The Marks Law Firm, Blige and her ex-husband signed a prenuptial agreement two days before they got married. During their court battle, Kendu asked the judge to disregard their agreement because “he entered it under duress (too close to the marriage) and without understanding what he would give up.”

He initially asked for $129,000 per month but in the end was granted $30,000 per month in temporary spousal support. It’s unclear whether Blige is still paying that hefty amount.
